FAVQ - Frequently Asked Video Questions
Q) I have no or very little footage of my son or daughter, what do I do?
A) If the sport is 'in season', start shooting now! Coaches do not expect a 'perfect' game, and we have yet to see one. Within the CPOA Video Evaluation brochure, on page 2, is the Reference Guide. Find your sport and shoot footage accordingly. If your sport is not listed, contact us at (888) 275-2762 or e-mail collegeprospectsvideo@hughes.net. If the sport is 'out of season', we have been able to produce evaluation videos from teammate's footage. If that is not available, get some friends and go to the field/court and run plays. Something is better than nothing.
Q) What types of 'media' do you work with?
A) Disc Media: DVD, CD-R, VCD, CD-Rom. Tape Media: DV Cam (mini tape), 8mm, Hi8mm, VHS-C & VHS. We cannot except Digital 8mm, please transfer those tapes to a disc/tape media before sending in for production.
Q) I have a lot of footage, where do I start?
A) Pick one or two of what you feel are your best all-around games/matches. It is important to show versatility. For those using 'Highlights only', it should take no more than five games/matches to find the necessary number of plays. Please refer to Pages 2 and 3 of the Evaluation Athletic Recruiting Video Brochure for help in getting your video(s) ready for processing.
Q) I have a completed profile, why do I have to fill out the Personal Information Sheet?
A) Most clients wait to produce their Evaluation Video. Often information from their CPOA profile has changed from the time when it was originally produced. Therefore, the Personal Information Sheet must be filled out so we can provide coaches with the most up-to-date and accurate information.
Q) Can I purchase a video package only?
A) Yes. There are two packages available. The Basic Athletic Recruiting Package, which includes a video of up to 15 minutes in length with five copies, and the Gold Athletic Recruiting Package with ten copies and a video as long as 20 minutes. Each package features our industry standard stop-action, highlight arrows with digital-shading, to help coaches find you on the video and a Test Copy sent to the client for review before we produce duplicate
copies.
Q) Why won't the disc play in my DVD player?
A) Disc media is open to interpretation and is very complex. As with any technology, there can be compatibility problems. Discs have become more complex as authoring tools improve, so these discs often uncover engineering flaws in players. If you are having a problem with your disc, try the following: Attempt to play the disc a few more times. With the disc in the player, unplug the unit and let sit for 30 seconds or so, then try again. If the problem is not exactly the same every time, the problem is likely a defective or damaged disc. Make sure it isn't scratched or dirty. Try a different player, if it plays properly, then the first disc player is at fault. Try all the discs you receive from us. If you find the same error every time, the problem is in the player. If not, some of the discs could be defective. The truly maddening aspect of this is, what may not play today, may play tomorrow! If you have sincerely tried to play your discs and can find no solution, call us at (888) 275-2762 or email at collegeprospectsvideo@hughes.net.
Proactive Video Marketing - What does it mean to the student-athlete?
Thousands upon thousands of videos have been produced for student-athletes by a myriad of companies and families, only to be sent to college coaches who couldn't use the video. Why? Poor footage, poor quality and, quite frankly, coaches often cannot find the athlete they are looking for on the screen. In some sports, it is not impossible for a coach to receive hundreds of unsolicited videos. They simply do not have time to pour through tapes trying to figure out who and where the athlete is on the field or court. In 1994, College Prospects of America revolutionized the video as we know it. By using stop-action, highlight arrows and digital shading, the coach has absolutely no doubt who and where the athlete is on the screen. Coaches have told us for years that our videos have made their job easier. Now CPOA clients have the option of having a portion of their evaluation video placed on our corporate website. A 5 or 10 minute version of the video featuring the stop-action, arrows and digital shading is available to coaches via online streaming.
As professional video editors, it is our job to make it as simple as possible for coaches to view and request our client's videos. We now offer coaches a direct link to the CPOA Video Operations Center, where they can request a full-length version of the athlete's video. And they are asking.
